In the end, American let its employees decide the new livery's fate. The airline also allows children ages 5-14 to travel alone on many flights with the purchased Unaccompanied Minor Service. The service is $150 per family, per way and includes supervision from boarding until drop-off at the destination. United Airlines Grows at Hubs: United Airlines tweaked its network over the weekend, and I found its moves at Los Angeles, where I live, to be the most interesting. A decade ago, United was one of Hollywood’s preferred airlines, and it flew to many of the largest markets for entertainment, as well as bigger Western cities. Now, it’s focused on smaller markets from L.A., including some unusual additions: Eugene, Oregon; Madison, Wisconsin; and Pasco/Tri-Cities, Washington. Ben Mutzabaugh of USA Today has details.
The Resilience of the American Vacation in Mexico: This excellent enterprise piece from Skift’s Sarah Enelow-Synder is not about airlines, though the Mexican carrier Volaris figures prominently. Holger Blankenstein, who runs the airline’s commercial team, explains why marketing to Mexican-Americans is different from targeting vacationers. “In a Mexican-origin family, the son or daughter are the ones who buy the flight ticket for the parents,” he said. “How the family gets to know Volaris and the brand is passed down from generation to generation.”

Dallas’ nearest airport is Dallas/Fort Worth International, an immense transportation hub that serves direct flights from destinations across the globe - like London, Amsterdam, Sydney, and Seoul - as well as dozens of direct domestic flights. For public transport from the airport, take the DART Rail Orange Line train from Terminal A direct to Downtown Dallas. Alternatively, hire a car from an onsite rental service and drive the 22 miles to Dallas along the Highway 114 East - but beware of rush hour traffic. Once there, driving around the city is easiest, due to its sprawling size, but the DART light rail network also hits many of the main tourist areas.

Prior to beginning this design sprint, we had already created a basic style guide, that we called the foundation. This foundation loosely defined our typography, colors, icons, spacing and information architecture. The foundation proved essential for guiding our work in a unified direction while allowing room for us to individually explore creative design solutions. This way we felt that we were all working together, towards the same idea. Reviewing our collective work at the end of each day, we began to see patterns emerge. We course-corrected when necessary, and started defining our standardized components.
Aer Lingus Taps New CEO From Within Parent IAG: Aer Lingus is no longer a stand-alone airline, so it makes sense that its CEO, Stephen Kavanagh, who joined the company in 1988, is stepping down. Newish owner International Airlines Group, owner of Iberia and British Airways, is putting its own man in charge. Skift Europe Editor Patrick Whyte has the story.
